Osteopathy is an established system of manual therapy recognised by the British Medical Association. Osteopaths use many of the diagnostic procedures used in conventional medical assessment and diagnosis. They are experts in detecting and treating problems with the musculoskeletal system, such as tense muscles, strained ligaments, trapped nerves and stiff joints. Marcus’ particular area of expertise is in integrating ‘hands-on’ treatment with movement and exercise based rehabilitation. Please see the General Osteopathic Council website for more information about Osteopathy.
Osteopathic treatment can help reduce the level of your pain and discomfort by easing muscle tension, relieving strain, improving circulation and increasing mobility. Many of our patients find significant relief within about 3 treatments. It is very much a ‘hands on’ form of therapy and distinguished by the high palpatory skill required to assess and treat.
A key aspect of our approach is to provide you with a clear explanation of your problem in a way in which empowers you to help yourself. Patients really appreciate the reassurance that this understanding provides and notice that the fear associated with their pain almost immediately goes.
As well as providing ‘hands on’ treatment to reduce pain and improve mobility we also offer the opportunity for you to improve your posture and movement. We find this approach really useful for patients wishing to prevent reoccurrence of their problems and who wish to return to physical activities they were previously concerned by. We do this by coaching better movement patterns and by prescribing specific rehabilitation exercises and supporting you as you return.
