Herbal Medicine has been used for centuries to treat illness and restore good health. Modern herbal medicine integrates the traditional use of herbs with contemporary pharmacological research and biomedical knowledge. It chiefly uses European herbs, but also incorporates useful plants from different parts of the world.
Herbal medicine has recently seen a resurgence in popularity due to a growing evidence base with for example clinical trials providing evidence for the use of Echinacea (for colds and immunity), St. John’s Wort (for depression) and Ginkgo (for dementia). In Germany plant based medicines are prescribed by many of their medical doctors.
Our medical herbalist, Dellna Illavia, is registered with the National Institute of Medical Herbalists which is the UK’s leading professional body representing herbal practitioners.
